A Haunted Website
A previous co-worker and friend contacted me to help build a website for his community haunt. In three weeks, the haunt required a basic set of brand resources and functional website before the launch of the haunt.

Finding the Brand
My clients did not have a codified visual identity. We dedicated the first week of work to exploring Slaybrook Manor’s tone, style, logo, fonts and photography for use on the website.

Core Principles
After finding a simple logo and fonts that worked well with my client’s intended brand image, we moved on to discuss how they saw their haunt compared to others in the Columbus area.
My clients answered questions which allowed me to position their haunt accuaretly on their new website.

Differentiating
I examined competitor sites from small to large; hoping to create a digital experience that differed enough to hold attention and create as much separation from other Columbus haunts as possible.

Envato Elements
I highly recommend using third party stock services and AI tools to accelerate website design and implementation in a rush..
With only three weeks to complete the project between my normal full time position, I had to move quickly.
By utilizing stock assets for the basic visual elements of the website, I was able to focus on rapid brand development and rapid implementation within Wix Studio.
Modern Horror
Following wire frames, I brought the outline to life with stock images, original visuals, and mock ups of merchandise available for purchase.
A modern and minimalist style separates the manor from the usually Victorian or bloodied haunted house website.

An Effortless Handoff
I transformed the Figma template into a functional Wix site within three business days.
After building a reservation page, sponsor and volunteer page, tuning SEO, and making future edits simple to make; work on the basic site was complete and ready for use.
Due to Wix’s simplified CMS, I was able to hand off the project to clients within the three week time requirement. Though updates have been made by event volunteers, Slaybrook Manor’s website continues to operate today.
